The intern program at KAPP-TV
and KVEW-TV is designed to provide students a practical learning
experience in the broadcasting industry.
Interns must be
students of Junior or Senior status, enrolled in a 4-year, 2-year,
Technical school or High School communications or video production
class. While the internship is tailored to the student's area of
interest, interns will be encouraged to experience other aspects
of the company/industry as well.
Generally, interns
will be required to perform tasks that another staff member
regularly performs. Occasionally, "paid" interns are
accepted, who will work in place of a regular paid staff, on a
fill-in basis. In such cases, the intern/employee will be paid
entry-level wages, for part-time hours. There will be no health
insurance or other benefits granted during these internships.
Interns or intern/employees are not entitled to a position with KAPP
or KVEW Television upon
completion of the internship.

Minimum Student requirements

KOMO-TV,

KOMO
4 Television offers a year-round college internship
program for students who have identified communications as a
career goal and who have demonstrated through academic training
and/or experience the serious pursuit of that goal. The internship
program exposes student to the daily demands and challenges of
commercial broadcasting with a hands-on approach. Individual
internships are synchronized with the academic term of the
student’s college or university—typically 12 to 16 weeks.
Interns are interviewed and accepted by a specific department or
program unit. Departments at KOMO that accept interns are
the TV News, Programming and Creative Services.
Applications for
internships are accepted from students of junior or senior
standing (or second year students at community colleges and trade
schools).
Students must be
currently enrolled at a college or university and preference is
given to students who are residents of Washington State
majoring in communications, broadcasting or a related field.
Students enrolled at a community college will be accepted if they
are currently in a broadcasting/communications program.
Students should
evaluate their qualifications in relation to their areas of
interest. Students who wish to work in field production, for
example, would be expected to have basic production skills,
including the use of videotape equipment. News interns should be
able to demonstrate journalistic talents and experience. In almost
all circumstances, basic knowledge of equipment and strong writing
and computer skills are considered essential.

opportunities in the television broadcast industry.
Conditions
* The internship
program is open to any student enrolled in a 4-year, 2-year or
vocational technical school,
either as a junior/senior or in the last year of the student’s
program.
* Internships are
non-paid and the student must be receiving college credit.
Students will receive a
maximum of 4 college credits for their participation in the KHQ program.
* Students must be
willing to work flexible hours and enthusiastically participate in
all duties assigned.
* There are no
employee benefits provided and Interns are not entitled to a
position with KHQ-TV upon completion of the internship.

All students participating in an
internship at KHQ-TV are required to take a drug test.
